PROGRAMS: “Inauguration of New Dawn Poultry Farm”

people gathering

The story of the Inauguration of New Dawn Poultry Farm is instructive and heartwarming. Women have always known—and thankfully, more men and leaders of civil society and governments are recognizing—that when women’s potential is nurtured, they develop and succeed. And with women’s growth, families are cared for, neighborhoods improve, communities are stronger. Inauguration Day for New Dawn in Cocobano illustrated the celebration of this multi-layed effect.

Local and neighboring community members gather. Elders are glad to see the community grow.

Celebration setting

Women leaders are proud of their organization and accomplishments. The community of Cocobano worked together: a tarp was strung from trees shading an area for a table for special guests; chairs were set up, balloons festooned table and trees. Long cords brought electrcity for a microphone and tape player.

Table of honor

Nora, New Dawn coordinator, extends a warm welcome, many thanks to those who made the poultry farm possible. Sister Anne Marie Gardiner, SEW Executive Director, at far left of “Table of Honor” accepts the thanks on behalf of SEW those donors. Roberto, representative of the Community Council, also spoke of the inportance of the contribution of women, their roles and work.

Checken house

Members of New Dawn gave guests a tour of the hen house and shared their plan to market eggs.

Back at the shaded table and chairs, lunch was served. Four girls entertained with three different choreographed dances done to traditional Salvadoran music. Guests joined in dancing. Children played with balloons. It was a typical community celebration for jobs well done!
